The White Coat Reality Check

Many of you think of med school as 'cool', probably taking reference of popular web medical dramas such as 'House MD', 'The good Doctor' etc.

After being in a med school for over three months, I can certainly say that it's not, it is much closer to hell. There are no dramatic soundtracks when we walk down the halls—just the smell of formalin and the sound of collective sleep deprivation.

Suddenly you start to like the much hated NCERT textbooks, yes, once you begin your medical journey, the tragedy of BDC, GUYTON AND VASUDEVAN befalls you, I read equivalent of all the NCERTs combined for the first internals itself with two more and a University exam ahead with much more to learn and memorise.

I used to confabulate stories of what my life would be like once I got the seat. I imagined the prestige. I forgot to imagine the 2 AM coffee and the 8 AM Histology slides. I spent so much time chasing the "destination" that I didn't realize the destination was actually a construction site where I have to build myself from scratch.

I do not intend to frighten you, I just wish that you know what is ahead, if you clear NEET. So if you're a NEET aspirant do not slack on memorisation and MCQ practice, just do it.

LIFE AFTER NEET

Life may not be all happy for most after neet , not good at least for 99% of the `aspirants` . I myself stand at the boundry which makes it all the more worse , my future is uncertain .We are still awaiting the official answer key and the coaching ` institutes ` aren`t helping me stay sane. THE QUIET HOMETOWN WHERE I BALANCED NEET AND MY DREAMS

NEET prep was like a roller coaster . Leaving home behind and living alone in an unknown city was tough. Class 10 exams had just ended , I thought i finally had some free time , but i was wrong . I had a big decision to make , something no one was prepared to make. I had to choose between three streams of higher studies namely SCIENCE , COMMERCE and ARTS . I never liked maths so commerce was off the table and I did`nt want to interpret what the poet wants to say so arts was ruled out which left me with science , Physics - Chemistry - Biology . Every PCB student in INDIA aspires to be a doctor , so did I . NEET prep was the only way to go and so the `suffer` (hindi word for journey , and i spelled it right :-) began ) . The longest vacation of my life : Medical counselling

It`s been 139 days since the horror of NEET UG 2025 as of 20 September 2025 , life looks pretty good ,I wake up when I want to ,watch tv all day ,eat whatever I want and sleep late (same as before though),basically I have nothing to do while my engineering friends (those who took a drop, yes i had to take ONE drop) are attending their orientation seminars ,moving into their hostels(I hope it`s good),thanks to all the counselling people ( MCC , CET cell etc.) The COUNSELLING It is taking forever, MCC keeps postponing and state CET cell takes an entire month for just one round, on top of that when you get a seat you HAVE to report to the college or your seat is GONE . My situation isn`t great either I`m like 1 question away from certain selection for GMC 😭 ,what I got is like a middle ground between a GMC and a deemed university but it`ll still cost like 5x the GMC .(fingers crossed 😖) The second round results of MCC are out(finally, with some d...
